Privacy policy

Last updated October 1, 2026

itemrover (“we”) searches online marketplaces for the things you describe and uses AI to rank what it finds. This policy explains what information we collect to do that, who helps us process it, and the choices you have.

What we collect

  • Account details. Your email address and a password, which we store only as a one-way hash.
  • What you hunt for. The descriptions, answers, reference photos, budgets, sizes, colours and identifying details you give a hunt, and for a stolen-item hunt, the date it went missing.
  • Location. The metro area, postal code and search radius you choose for local marketplaces. We do not track your device's location.
  • Your feedback. The listings you save and the good, bad or maybe verdicts and reasons you give, which we use to improve that hunt's results.
  • Listings we find. Publicly posted marketplace listings that match your hunts: titles, prices, descriptions, approximate locations and photos. We keep copies of photos only for listings worth keeping, such as the ones you save.
  • Technical data. Basic server logs (such as IP address, browser type and request times) and records of the searches and AI calls each hunt makes, so we can run the service, fix problems and track cost.

How we use it

  • To run your hunts: search marketplaces, filter and score listings, and show you the results.
  • To learn from your feedback so a hunt's later results get better.
  • To keep your account secure, prevent abuse and keep the service working.
  • To contact you about your account or changes to these policies.

We do not sell your personal information, share it for advertising, or use it to build advertising profiles.

Who helps us

We share only what each service needs to do its job:

  • Anthropic provides the AI that reads hunt descriptions, listings and photos. It receives hunt details and listing text and photos, not your email or password.
  • Bright Data, ScrapeCreators and Apify fetch marketplace pages for us. They receive search terms and the search area, not your account details.
  • eBay, through its official API, receives search terms when a hunt searches eBay.
  • OpenStreetMap turns listing town names into map coordinates so we can show distances.
  • Heroku hosts the app and its database, and Cloudflare stores photos.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or as part of a sale or merger of the service, in which case this policy continues to apply.

Cookies

We use a single cookie to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising or third-party analytics cookies. Blocking cookies will stop you from signing in.

How long we keep it

We keep your information while your account is open. Deleting a hunt deletes its listings, photos and feedback. When you ask us to close your account, we delete your account and hunts within 30 days, except for records we must keep by law. Server logs are kept for a limited time and then deleted.

Your choices and rights

You can view and edit your hunts at any time, and delete any hunt. You can also ask us to give you a copy of your information, correct it, or delete your account by emailing info@itemrover.com. Depending on where you live (for example California, Oregon, or the EU and UK), you may have further rights, such as to object to or restrict some processing. We will not treat you differently for using them.

Security

We use encrypted connections, hashed passwords and access controls to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a password you don't use elsewhere.

Children

itemrover is not meant for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

Where your information is processed

We and our providers process information in the United States. If you use itemrover from elsewhere, your information will be transferred there.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the date above, and for significant changes we will let you know by email or in the app before they take effect.
